Start with the material.

The name on the bag is only the starting point. Ingredients, particle size and your cat’s preferences can differ between formulas.

Tofu & plant pellets

Compare the fibre ingredients and pellet size. Products called “tofu” may use pea fibre or other plant materials, and their binders can differ.

Cassava

Look at the full blend and granule texture. Twinkle Tale Cassava lists cassava and corn starch; its Tofu & Cassava Mix is a separate formula.

Mixed formulas

Check what is being mixed. A tofu-and-cassava blend is different from corn-and-bentonite litter. “Mixed” does not mean clay-free.

Oat & mineral

Oat litter uses a different plant base; mineral litter is another option again. Check the stated material and compare packs using the same unit.

1. Start with your cat

Think about the texture and scent your cat already accepts. Try a smaller pack when changing formulas, then make the transition gradually using the pack directions.

2. Check your tray

For an automatic litter box, match both the allowed materials and particle-size requirements. A product marketed for automatic trays is not a guarantee for every machine.

3. Compare the whole purchase

Check pack size, storage space and delivery costs. Once a formula suits your cat, compare single bags and multipacks on the product page.

Which cat litter is best for my cat?

Start with the texture your cat accepts, your tray type and your fragrance preference. Use this comparison to narrow the options, then check the specific product directions. There is no single formula that suits every cat or household.

Is tofu litter better than cassava or mixed litter?

The material name alone cannot establish which is better. Compare the actual ingredients, granule size, pack and tray requirements. Mixed litter can contain plant ingredients, minerals or both, depending on the product.

Which options can I consider for an automatic litter box?

TOFU Australia Auto and MICHU Wonder Unscented are marketed for automatic trays. Use the tray filter to find them, then check your machine manufacturer’s accepted materials and particle sizes. Compatibility is model-specific.

How should I compare the cost of different bags?

Compare prices per kg with other prices per kg, or prices per L with other prices per L. Do not convert litres to kilograms without a verified weight. Absorbency, cleaning habits, delivery and the amount discarded also affect the total cost of use.

Why are there no dust or odour scores?

We have not conducted a controlled test across these products. The guide compares published specifications and stated uses, rather than assigning performance scores. Follow the product links to read each listing’s claims and directions.

Does plant-based mean I can flush the litter?

No. Plant-based or biodegradable materials are not automatically suitable for flushing. Follow your local council and water authority’s disposal guidance as well as the product instructions.
